Dr. Hilal Betul Kaya is an Assistant Professor of Bioengineering at Manisa Celal Bayar University in Turkey, specializing in plant genetics and biotechnology. Currently on sabbatical at Cornell University, Dr. Kaya is collaborating with Dr. Adam Bogdanove and Dr. Lance Cadle-Davidson. Her research focuses on optimizing genome editing methods for crop improvement. She co-developed some of the first tools for precise genetic modifications in plants using prime editing. As part of the VG3 project, Dr. Kaya is contributing to Objective 1: Genes on the Shelf, where she is exploring various genome editing approaches to reduce powdery mildew susceptibility in grapevines.
